Royalist Crier 90 duelling with Tap Dancer 22 at Heathrow Airport

SHIVER ME TIMBERS: Admirable town crier Tony ‘First Sea Lord’ Appleton, a jolly jiving jack tar who saw Korean War service on board HMS Constance, spied a shipshape shipmate promoting MAC Hey Sailor! beauty products while on senior service at Heathrow for World Duty Free.

Old salt Appleton who sailed the seven seas challenged Saucy Sue ,22, to a tap-dance boogie-woogie version of dualing banjos and they drew a large crowd of landlubbers as they horn-pipped their way through a sea shanty

Verdict, er, don’t give up the day job swabing the decks, me Lord!!

Hey, Sailor!

Hey Sailor launched in late May 2012, and it’s one of those collections that you know will be a complete sell-out.

The collection was inspired by the glam of vintage pin-up girls, and the look is sassy and sexy, but not over the top.

Deep navy and white strips run this way and that, on boxes that contain compacts, pencils and more, with the same vertical and horizontal navy and white stripes and even the powders are embossed with colorful, striped overlays.

It’s a large collection, with more than a little something for everyone, but the main colors are primary—maybe the colors you would find in a luxury ship yard: blue, gold, red, browns ….

While the entire collection is listed by name and price below, I personally tried a few products and colors.

A nice surprise is that while some of the colors are very bold, some quite pale, all are pretty and wear-able, much more than some of the more recent avant-garde color selections.

It is easy to love the performance and quality of M-A-C products, but the Advice Sisters love the products even more when the colors are trendy, but not nutty.

One to really love is the shimmery Lip Glass called “Blessedly Rich” that has enough coral and copper to make a brilliant, shiny, on-trend Summer look warm and inviting.

A new lipstick called “To Catch a Sailor” brings a pale gold look to what is normally just a nude tan lip.

The very frosted formula makes it new. The same very frosted, subtle gold/tan treatment is given to a gorgeous eye shadow called “Barefoot” in a veluxe pearl that isn’t overtly glittery, shimmery or shiny, but simmers softly on lids like well worn gold with a soft patina.

I paired this well with a bold, deep green Powerpoint Eye Pencil called “Emerald Sea.” But the color smooths on more subtly than an emerald and not even as bright as Kelly green, as described in the press literature.

On lids and as a liner, it’s more like a luxe, deep jade. If you didn’t care to add any eye shadow, you could just fill your lash line with this lush green color, and it would look amazing.

Moving down the face, there are a number of powders and bronzers and blushes.
I tried one of two MAC Hey, Sailor Pro Long Wear Bronzing Powders

“Naked on Board” (in places it is called “Nude on Board”) has a yellow undertone

This tint wasn’t flattering on my ruddy skin, but if you have a more sallow/yellow complexion, it will be your new best bronzing friend.

The brown/bronze tint but it isn’t so deep that it looks crazy on light to medium skin, either.

Gold white and red are the colors of the three nail lacquers in this collection.

All are classic Summer enhancers, but Touch of Red — Bright yellow red (cream) that is nearly cherry: clear, bright classy, perfect with nautical red, white and blue.

Major love!

Just from the photos, the rest of the collection appears to have something for everyone, with some brights, some nudes, and softer, less shimmery formulas that will work well in the hotter, brighter months.

With literally dozens of items, there will be at least a few that make you go “ooooh!”
You might not think you need any more Summer makeup, until you get a personal look at the pieces in Hey Sailor.

Take a break from girly pastels, or too bright neons and citrus, and just enjoy some classy colors, thanks to M-A-C.

And just to make things nicer, there are some really cute makeup bags to keep all your new stuff in, as well.
