FRENCH FLEET IN ALGIERS – NO SOUND

Europeans of Algiers surrendered more than 5.000 weapons on April 27th as this sullen city went discouragedly about its business. Under the guns of fifteen French war- ships, led by the aircraft carrier Arromanches and the cruiser Colbert cammanded by Admiral Barhtelemy lying in Algiers bay, discipline was taking hold. Admiral Quarville, naval commander in Algieria, said there had been no defections to the mutiny by navy personnel though there had been some “hesitations”.
